Recent trips and Anticipation

We have had a couple of trips since my last blog (Norway and Iceland in July, 2016) and they have gone unblogged (spellcheck doesn't like that non-word).  In September, 2016 Joyce and I spent two weeks in Israel, most of which was on a Melton study seminar focusing on the history and current day status of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  It was quite intense, and we heard from representatives of many of the involved factions, both in Israel proper and in the West Bank.  We came home full of information, but no more hopeful about an end to the conflict.

In January we attended the Palm Springs Film Festival, seeing 19 films in 10 days, and then spent a few days touring the Southern California desert with Carol and Paul Goldberg, going to amazing places they knew of, such as Slab City and its East Jesus art district and Salvation Mountain:

We took a hike to Barker Dam:

And we visited Joshua Tree National Park and the Cholla Cactus garden:

Well, now we're off again.  We leave Wednesday, March 8 for Chile, Argentina and Brazil, visiting the Lake District of Chile, Bariloche in the Andes and Buenos Aires in Argentina, Iguassu Falls on both the Argentinian and Brazilian sides, and Rio.  If our schedule is not too intense, I plan to blog this trip too.  Watch for more.
